6 Weeks with Twins...

So we have finally reached this magical "6 week" point. Before we had the babies, we were told everything happened at 6 weeks...we were mostly just told that they would be sleeping through the night by 6 weeks--which we have anticipated since they were born. So now we are here and have found that all the things people told us, don't necessarily hold true with twins. At 6 weeks, we are now in the 7 lb range, finally fitting normally into newborn clothing, smiling back at us (sometimes...,) eating every 2 1/2-4 hours and 2-4 oz each feeding, still in newborn diapers...but trying to fit into size 1's, both of them are getting pretty good at holding their head up--Molly has been doing this for a while and Ellie is now catching up, batting at the hanging things on the play mat--not sure if this is on purpose or on accident, but they do it? But overall...NOT close to sleeping through the night!

Molly

They are still sleeping together in Molly's crib (she's good at sharing already!) I'm not sure when Ellie will go to her crib, but as for now, I think they still like being next to eachother. Most of the time, Braden and I both wake up to feed them. If I do it solo, it takes about an hour and a half all said and done. When we both do it, it still takes about 45 minutes...I think they are pokey eaters! If Molly is given a pacifier to help her go back to sleep, I get back into bed and anticipate what is to come. When it falls out, you would think she was dying! She does NOT handle that well and struggles to get it back into her mouth until her mom comes to her rescue! This process goes on until she finally gets tired enough to not care. Needless to say, I am sometimes jealous of my friends who have recently delivered 8-10 lb babies who at this point are already sleeping 6-7 hours! As much as I want to freeze time so they stay this size forever, it will be nice when they get to a weight where we can all sleep more!

Ellie

Each of them have a couple nights a week where they seem to be restless, uncomfortable and not feel well. So I take this opportunity to bond with each of them separately. They fall asleep on my chest in the guest room and we will sleep together for a couple hours until the next feeding. I don't think this is a good routine or habit, but as for now, I like the individual one on one time I get with them:)

Other than all of that, 6 weeks later I think I've got a good handle on getting them ready, into their carseats, into the car, and on we go! I'm getting used to our big limo double stroller and its a good thing I like attention! You would think that with 1 out of 80 births being twins nowadays, people wouldn't be phased by them. But everywhere we go, people are fascinated with the sight of 2 babies and everyone wants to look and gauk over them...I'm not complaining:) I have tried to get them out of the house at least every other day, which helps keep me sane! We take outtings to the mall, meet friends for lunch, go to Yaya and Bompa's house for a change of scenery, go visit Dad at work, and we even had our first trip to Costco! Braden and I even got a date night the other night and saw Hangover 2:) It was nice to just sit in a movie in peace and quiet, but when it was done, I really missed the girls! Going back to work may be harder than I am expecting:(
